Water pollution

Water pollution is an alteration of ecosystems that have water as their fundamental component.

It is caused by numerous and different factors, such as direct or indirect discharges of industrial activities or normal human activities (such as domestic sewage) which reach rivers, lakes and seas from large urban centers without appropriate treatment. Water pollution can also result from accidental causes, such as accidents to oil tankers.
